I have never seen a film like A Hidden Life. Terrence Malick is known for his unique style, but this is something else. It is one of the most grim, harrowing, mournful films I have ever seen (it should be rated R) and it is absolutely masterful.
I can't even find words to properly describe it. This is a film that you enter, that you experience, you almost feel like you're watching a documentary. Malick's direction is absolutely one of a kind, brilliant, almost spiritual. The acting is phenomenal-August Diehl is terrific, and Valerie Pachner is spectacular, along with excellent supporting performances from all. The cinematography is astounding; jaw-droppingly gorgeous (either this or 1917 for best cinematography of the year) and James Newton Howard's score is beautiful. But what sets this film apart is its emotional brutality- it is heartbreaking, grim, and absolutely brutal. And yet, throughout all of this, the courage, faith and bravery of Franz and his wife, not to mention their three little girls and Franz's mother-is incredibly overwhelming. The film is not without flaws-it's needlessly too long, with some repetitive shots-but that does not take away from the fact that it is fantastic. An incredible film.

Based on the 2004 novel of the same name by Zsuzsa F. Varkonyi and set in Budapest between 1948 and 1953, the suffering of the Holocaust years are deeply etched on the face of Doctor Aládar (Aldo) Körner (Károly Hajduk, One Day. a slender, gaunt man of about forty who is going through the motions of his Ob-Gyn practice at a Budapest hospital, but the look in his eyes cannot hide the trauma of his wife's death and that of his two young boys.
Coming from the Israelite Community Orphanage, Klára (Abigél Szõke, X - The eXploited. a mature-looking 16-year-old girl, sees Dr. Körner, for a gynecological exam to find out why her puberty has come so late. At first, angry, fearful, and wound into a tight knot, when she reaches out and suddenly embraces the doctor, it is clear that she is seeking more than an exam but a respite from her desperate loneliness. Outspoken in her disdain for her classmates at school and her great-aunt Olgi (Mari Nagy, Budapest Noir" with whom she lives, Klára only begins to reveal her repressed humanity when Aldo responds to her like a fellow human being in pain, not a wounded animal.
Bringing the film to life with her tremendously affecting performance, Szõke refuses to return to Olgi even though she loves her and wants her to be happy. Instead, she moves in with Aldo who acts as a foster father, sharing custody with her aunt. He makes the rules, however, and is strict about physical contact, especially when she crawls into bed with him at night. Gradually, both open up though to each other. They talk about God, her parents, the sister she feels guilty about not being able to save from death, and, in a tender scene, he shares with her his photo album from before the war.
Though Aldo strictly adheres to the rules of propriety, their developing relationship raises some eyebrows, and the interest of Soviet operatives. Amidst talk of a Soviet crackdown on personal freedoms, Aldo and Klára do their best to be discreet, but it does not prevent others from gossiping. In one instance, after being seen in a park laying her head on Aldo's lap, Klára is defiant when interrogated by a Communist official. Similarly, Pista (Andor Lukáts, The Whiskey Bandit. Aldo's colleague at work, says that people have disappeared during the night and tells him that he has joined the Communist Party and has been asked to inform on him.
Those Who Remained is an intimate look at two damaged souls who have been bruised and shaken by life but are now ready to begin the reconstruction of their life, a process which will, in Percy Bysshe Shelley's phrase "lift the veil from the hidden beauty of the world." Knowing that any expression of the love they feel for each other will push the boundaries of what is considered acceptable, both realize that their protestations of innocence will not be enough to keep them safe, and that they must now reach out to others, bringing solace and joy in a world in dire need of both.

Pár napja láttam premier előtti vetítésen, egyszerűen ZSENIÁLIS! Imádtam minden percét, csak ajánlani tudom aaaaaaa 😍😍😍❤💙💚💛💜. Azóta várom ezt az adaptációt, mióta olvastam a könyvet (elég rég volt már ahhoz, hogy folyamatosan ezt az előzetes nézzem. Nagyon remélem, hogy a film hű marad a könyvhöz, nem úgy, mint a magyarok az eredeti címhez. Szerencsére nem magyar vagy német filmről van szó, így igalommal várom, hogy milyen extrákkal fogják megdobni és nagy eséllyel ez most nem lesz egy nagy adag csalódás. A szinkronokat nem rontották el, legalábbis ebben az alig több mint két percben nem-igen hallottam bármit, ami bántotta volna a fülem. Várom már nagyon, szereplő válogatásért pedig megy a hatalmas taps.

2020 / Country USA. I had the phenomenal good luck to see 'Riverdance' at the Point Theater, Dublin, Ireland on 23 February, 1995. It was sold out but my friend had emergency appendectomy surgery so I used his ticket. I have never seen anything like it before or since. The audience was so loud in their applause you could not hear. It was a real treat. The fence behind must have been really annoying. see 1:30. As good as this young man is, he's actually slower than Flatley.

I used to study this type of activism and I am quite familiar with this story and its character.
This movie was trying to prostrate as it was positively event when the real story was nothing what that movie was made out to be. There is a lot of stories in this movie that needs to addressing to. I'll leave a few examples in here:
First of off, this lady was never had a romance with this Civil Rights activist.
Secondly, the FBI was not harassing her all because of hers political, nor because of hers involvement with Civil Rights, except it was because of her being involvement with a racist black group that was attempting to rob a several business and motivate to kill the enforcement.
Lastly, this lady was arrested for treason, publicity destruction, hatred, and harassing the soldiers whose return from Vietnam.
This movie needs to re-fix with fact-checking, instead of doing it to supports the propaganda.
I'll give it a 10 star once they fix it, but I know they won't.
